I’ve read your blog post of the Pulse smartpen and wanted to share some new commercial and demo videos that we just uploaded to the Livescribe YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/nevermissaword

From now until 12/31/08, you can get 5% off a Pulse smartpen at www.livescribe.com by using SCRIBE5A50 at checkout. Thanks, and enjoy the videos!

Tony, given the complexity with bringing a product to market, I'm willing to overlook the gripes on their message board - many revolve around unmet expectations (printing one's own paper, handwriting to text OCR, delivery delays.) I use the pen at my office daily and find that having the material collected and searchable within my desktop are worth the asking price. I tend to build mountains of written material over the course of a year.

Obviously we're expecting more out of Livescribe. We want the ability to re-use that information for documents, and to share it without sending it to a website. I think these things will come in time, and if they don't come from Livescribe, they may come from a third party. Hopefully the product won't languish in obscurity before then.

I haven't made the transition to VMFusion yet. I downloaded the evaluation, but ran into complications converting my Parallels image.

Thank you for an excellent succinct real-world review. I have a google alert for pulse reviews but have yet to read many others than from organizations like Gizmodo or the Times so I was pleased to read yours.

I too have a Mac with parallels and have considered moving to vmfusion but not enough for this pen. Paper replay and desktop search sound really great and can sell the hardware on its own. The platform is full of potential, but I hope that Livescribe learns more from their users on the community and dev forums and resolves some of the initial missteps at launch.
